Remember back a few months ago when I told you how much I love vintage salt and pepper shakers and I showed how I made ornaments out of them? Well, I could have a tree covered with these ornaments and still have salt shakers left over so I used them for another vintage-inspired project — repurposed salt shaker photo holders!

Supplies for Repurposed Salt Shaker Photo Holders
- salt shakers — vintage or new
- wire
- wire cutters
- round nose pliers
- Sharpie marker or another round item
- E6000
- brass or silver filigree
- old rhinestone buttons or vintage earrings
How to Make Wire Photo Holders
I used the same annealed wire that I used for the ornaments. It would be easiest to show you how I did it so I included a video below. This is NOT the same project but the idea of the wire photo holder is the same. It’ll have to do until I get my salt shaker video done.
First, I just wrapped my wire around a Sharpie pen to shape it. Then I wrapped the wire around the top of the glass and then screwed the top on so the wire stays on tight.
Next, I rummaged through my stash and found old rhinestone buttons, earrings, and other findings and glued them on with E6000.
I also use these for displaying earrings in my flea market displays. (Which is why you see the shamrock earrings in the photos.)
Thanks for reading my post! I’ve got to go make some more things out of the rest of my salt shakers. I have a few more salt and pepper shaker projects on the blog. I listed them below but please leave me a comment if you have any other ideas for me!

What a great idea!! I have some of my mom’s old shakers….what better way to honor her is to make a photo holder and put old pics of her grandchildren and great grands (she knew all of them). I also have so much of her jewellery and hesitated to give them away! Great for shakers that have lost the stopper!!!

I love this idea, great way to use odd pieces of jewellery. I can see a collection of these!

I’ve been collecting all the shakers i can find. How do you price your ornies??

I sell mine for $12-20, depending on the size and design of the salt shaker, if I use a fresh-water pearl, and how much I stamp on the tag. They sell pretty well for me.

Oh, I was also going to tell you that if you do sell them at shows you’ll probably have a lot of people look at them and say, “We can make those!”… that’s just part of the job. 🙂 I always try to be helpful and tell them how I made them. They’re probably like me. I would see that in a shop then go home and make it. There are makers and there are buyers.

I like this idea. I have recently started buying old salt & pepper shakers at thrift stores. Now I have another purpose for them.
