How to Make a Fruit of the Spirit Garland with Stamps & Watercolors

It’s taken me a while to get this project posted.  We actually made this fruit of the Spirit garland last summer when we had our Galatians Bible journaling group.  I already shared the cards we made and how Jordy used these stamps in her Bible.  But I think this was my favorite craft of the summer! It really helped us memorize Galatians 5:22-23.

Supplies for Fruit of the Spirit Garland

  • Watercolors – You can use any watercolors you have.  They don’t have to be expensive.  I used this watercolor set.
  • Paintbrush – Most watercolor sets come with sad little paintbrushes.  I like to have a larger round brush like these.
  • Watercolor Paper – If you’re careful you can use cardstock but watercolor paper works a lot better.
  • Fruit of the Spirit Stamps — These are currently sold out but I found a few other products that would work:
    • Fruit Rubber Stamps
    • Tiny Fruit Rubber Stamps
    • Another Set of Fruit Rubber Stamps — My favorite AND the cheapest!
    • This Set of Fruit Rubber Stamps has some more unusual fruits on it.
  • StazOn Jet Black Ink Pad –
  • Paper Cutter
  • Salt
  • Mini Clothespins
  • Jute

How to Make the Fruits of the Spirit Garland

First, cut the watercolor paper into 2″ x 3″ pieces with your paper cutter or scissors.  Stamp the fruit in the center of each piece of paper.  Let them dry completely.

Using lots of water, paint a single color on a card and sprinkle with salt while still wet.  Let them dry completely and brush the salt off.

Finished Fruit of the Spirit Garland

Then I just pinned them up along a piece of jute.  They’ve been a great reminder while I’m doing the laundry!

You could also turn these into cards or frame them.

I love this fruit of the Spirit garland, we are going to start a Fruit of the Spirit study in the children’s SS class next weekend, and I have already made and printed up fruit cards with the different ‘fruits’ named in them so they can make their own Fruit of the Spirit garland! Thanks for the wonderful idea! I am your neighbor today at Dare to Share Saturday link up!
