Best Jewelry Box Ideas to DIY
Paint or Decoupage Drawer Sides
I wish I had started doing this much sooner. I left so many drawer sides unpainted, or worse yet, halfway painted! Take a look at this jewelry box… doesn’t it just look more complete when the sides of the drawers are finished, too?
You’ll notice that several of my tips include decoupage. If you’ve never tried it, click over to Amy’s “7 Steps to Perfect Mod Podging” and you’ll see just how easy it is!
Decoupage Inside
If you’ve been following my blog for long you’ll know that I used to not buy jewelry boxes or jewelry cabinets if the insides were stained. Then I figured out that I could decoupage them! So now dirty fabric doesn’t bother me any more. This old jewelry box makeover is an example of how I decoupaged tissue paper over a nasty inside!
I’ve also decoupaged burlap and other fabric or scrapbook papers inside to cover stains.
Stencil Top
Jewelry box tops are just begging to be stenciled! See how this vintage jewelry box looks completely different after stenciling? You can completely change the style of box by using different stencils. Plus it’s so easy!
Cover Ugly Glass with Burlap
When I bought these two little jewelry boxes I was planning to just take the glass out and replace it with metal. But those glass tops were glued in there good! So I had to come up with another solution. So I just covered the fake stained glass with burlap in these jewelry boxes.
Decoupage Outside
Angie created Pottery Barn knock-off jewelry box with decoupage! Take a look at the original from Pottery Barn HERE. Her tutorial is super easy!
Start with one of these blank wood jewelry boxes and use your imagination!!!

These are great ideas for making over jewelry boxes. The decoupaged drawers add so much to the finished exteriors, whether they are painted or decoupaged. Also, I like the idea of covering glass with burlap — a great solution.

I’m in the process of making over my jewelry box. I stained it and didn’t like it so I went to Michael’s last night to get some chaulk paint.

I painted an old jewelry chest with 6 different color of chalk paint. It no longer look like the early american
ugly. I would like to put new pulls on the drawers but having a hard time finding one small enough to use.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Yes, I do! I have a whole article about just that. I had a problem with finding small hardware, too! https://ducttapeanddenim.com/jewelry-box-hinges/
