How to Make Vintage Key and Button Magnets

This project is a throwback to 2015 when I first shared these vintage key and button magnets on my blog. Since that time I’ve been selling these at flea markets. They don’t cost much but I have such a HUGE hoard of old keys and vintage buttons that they’re practically free for me to make!

========================

I’m at my first blog conference!  When this post goes live I’ll be at SNAPConf  in Salt Lake City with about 500 other bloggers learning about analytics, SEO, social media, creating with some great brands, and just having fun and making new friends.

How to Make Vintage Key and Button Magnets

This little project was a way for me to use up all my trinkets I’ve been collecting.  I have sooooooo many vintage buttons and keys but I can’t stop buying them!  Whenever I run across them at thrift stores or antique sales they just seem to find their way home with me.  So I’m trying to come up with new ways to use them.

I usually use them in jewelry.  But recently I started making these vintage key and button magnets.  I love them ’cause they’re so easy and they’re each completely unique!

Here’s all you need:

  • flat keys (vintage or new)
  • buttons
  • magnets
  • glue (E6000 is my favorite glue for this project)

{{{See a complete list of what’s in my toolbox and supply cabinet.}}}

Just arrange the buttons on the keys until you get a pattern you like.  Then glue them on.  After the glue dries, turn them over and glue the magnets on the back.  If you need to, place them buttons down in a bowl of rice to keep them flat so the magnets won’t slide before they’re dry.

    I recently started buying old salt and pepper shakers at thrift stores. I like your idea!
