Today I’m bringing you a thrift store makeover that the Shabby Chic lovers will enjoy — a pink jewelry cabinet! Here’s what it looked like before I started painting it. The heart-shaped handles called out to me on this one! Even though it was dirty it was sturdy.

Pink Jewelry Cabinet
- light pink chalk-type paint
- paint brush
- varnish
- metal screen
- tin snips
- E6000 glue
To go along with the heart theme I thought this cabinet should be painted pink. But since I’m not really a pink kinda girl I chose the lightest pink I could find — Portland Rose. I think I’ve only painted one other jewelry cabinet pink. Usually I go for a shade of blue.
I love chalk type paints because I don’t have to sand the piece. So I just slapped on (yes, that’s how I paint!) two coats of pale pink, let them dry, and wet distressed the edges. Then I came back and covered the entire jewelry cabinet with a coat of varnish.
You can see in the photo below how I inserted the metal screen in the door. I’ve started using a thin line of E6000 glue around the edge before screwing the metal back in, too. Just makes it a little sturdier.
And here’s the finished pink jewelry cabinet. What do you think? Pink… without being PINK.

I like it, and I love those knob. But I can barely tell its pink – looks cream. Very feminine and pretty!

I think that’s why I like it so much… it doesn’t look pink. 🙂
