How to Hide Cords from Charging Stations on Desk

My hubby’s a jewel!  When my oldest daughter moved out he was going to turn her room into his office.  But soon he realized that my creative business was taking over our house so he let me use her room as a studio and his “office” became the space under our stairs.  It was un underused space under the stairs we recently remodeled.  No problem except our living room is just opposite and this was our view.  We needed to figure out how to hide cords!

Let’s see… there’s a computer cord, iPhone cord, iPad, router, printer, lamp…  I’m not even sure what else he has plugged in.  Finally I couldn’t take it any more.

How to Hide Cords

This is what I used:

  • Command mini hooks
  • Velcro wraps
  • Quirky Cordies cable management

First I stuck the command mini hooks along the back of the desk and down the leg.  Then, one by one I stuck the cords in from the wall to the center of the back of the desk.  I wrapped each cord separately with a Velcro wrap.  I thought about wrapping them all together and it would probably look neater.  But he does sometimes need to take his cords when he travels so I wanted to make it easy to remove just one.  Plus, we don’t really care how messy the back of the desk looks.

Here’s the view from the front.  He found this docking station on Amazon.  It’s got room for his phone, Kindle, iPad, AND Apple watch.   He keeps his book weight right in front for when he uses a “real” book.

I was really happy with the finished project.  You can still see a cord but one cord is much better than the web of cords that was there before!  (Notice our carpet-less stairs?  Still one of my favorite home DIY projects.)

I could go back and add a couple more mini hooks to keep those cords on the bottom from showing.  But I’m ok with the look for now.

This is such a great idea! Cords showing is one of my pet peeves! 🙂 Thanks for sharing with Share Your Cup. I’m sure it’s not intentional, but I’m not seeing a link back o the party.
