This jewelry cabinet makeover is a good example of how people’s tastes differ. My daughter had some leftover chalk paint (I’ll give you a link but don’t want to share the name here ’cause I ended up not liking it at all.) so she passed it along to me to use on one of my thrift store jewelry cabinets. Here’s what it looked like before I painted it and turned it into a green jewelry cabinet.

Green Jewelry Cabinet Makeover
This jewelry cabinet was clean and sturdy with a wild 70s color fabric inside.
I gave it a couple of coats of this chalk paint. I’m not going to share the name here because I didn’t like it at all but I think a big part of that might be the color. When the paint dried I distressed it with some sandpaper and applied a coat of Minwax polycrylic.
I really couldn’t stand the way it turned out.
It looks almost white here but it’s got a slight green tint.
But, wouldn’t you know, I took it to Treasure Island Flea to display some jewelry and this was the FIRST THING I SOLD that day! The buyer was thrilled. And I was thrilled to see it go.
So, my story had a good ending. And someday I may even give this brand of paint another try.

I think I need to stop passing over these jewelry boxes at the thrift store. Great job!

Yes! You can usually find a bargain and it’s fun to work on them. Like furniture but a much smaller scale!

Coincidentally, I just bought two repainted jewelry cabinets at an= yard sale this weekend and hadn’t ever seen them repainted until then and now with your site. 🙂 I’ll be surfing around to see what treasures are on here. 🙂

Thanks Cindy! I’d love to see them when you’re done.

How much do you usually ask for these Ann? If you don’t mind my asking…I was wondering b/c one I recently sold on Etsy took a long time to sell. I was wondering if I was asking too much.

I usually charge $25-35. But I noticed the ones on Etsy are a lot higher. I wondered about that. But I do earn some ad revenue when I post them on my blog & I don’t have room to store them for long plus I just enjoy doing them… so I’m ok with selling them a little lower. Have you only sold one? Do you have any more listed now?
