A few days ago I shared a DIY picture frame project that I painted in a new chalk type paint that my Junk Bonanza neighbor gave me. Today I’m painting frames in blue, gray, and white. Here’s the BEFORE photo. The bronze oval frame is metal, the gold frame is resin and actually has a piece broken off of it, and the hot pink frame was given to me by a friend. She was going to throw it out because the back was missing and it has a few chips out of it. (You’ll see that in some of the photos.)

DIY Picture Frame Supplies
- old frames
- paint
- paint brushes
I started by painting the back of the frames first.
After the backs dried I flipped them over and painted the fronts. Each frame got two coats of the base color.
When that was dry I came back with a VERY little paint on a dry brush and just hit the highlights.
Love the detail on this frame and I really like the blue better than that bright pink.
Here’s what the smaller gold frame looked like after I painted it. I gave it a base coat of gray and dry brushed it with white.
And I just couldn’t bring myself to paint the bronze one! I shared it on my Instagram account to see what my followers thought. What do you think… paint or no paint?
This specific paint isn’t available online yet but here is a brand that I use all the time. It’s very similar in feel:

I have a few mirrors that I need to tackle, so this post is so helpful! I loved how yours turned out!

I would paint it because the original finish is somewhat dark. It should bring out the details nicely.

Wow what a great update. I love free stuff, even if it’s bright pink 🙂 Thanks for linking up to Waste Not Wednesday!
