Jewelry Cabinet Makeovers

How to Paint a Simple Old Art Deco Jewelry Cabinet

I almost didn’t buy this big art deco jewelry cabinet when I saw it at Annie’s Attic.  It’s not my style at all.  But it was in good condition, no stains, and cheap — $4.99!  So I thought I’d try it.  I’m glad I did ’cause it turned out gorgeous.  And I got to use Rub n’ Buff again.  Any day I can rub and buff something is a good day…lol…

Here’s what that painting day looked like…  I think I might have overextended myself that day.  Five painting projects in one day is a little crazy.  Seeing this picture made me think, maybe I should write an article about all the basic supplies I keep on hand for thrift store makeovers.  Is anyone interested?

This piece had some interesting glass in the doors.  It was so in line with the style of the piece I decided to keep it.  The Rub n’ Buff toned it down a bit.  In the photo below, the left side has Rub n’ Buff and the right side doesn’t.

I rubbed and buffed the handles, too.

I decided not to decoupage the sides of the drawers.  I wanted to keep this project simple and clean.  So I just painted them.  I didn’t varnish the sides of the drawers.

And here’s the completed project.  What do you think?  I believe I sold it for $30 at Paris Flea Market.

Was not aware of the Run N Buff product but it looks like it is very good for toning down brassy brass. Thanks for the tip! The deco box is very nice.
