I love finding and painting old jewelry cabinets. Some of them need a little more than just painting. I found this large jewelry cabinet in a local thrift store a couple of summers ago. It’s the biggest one I’ve ever found! It had a few problems but really just needed a little TLC.

Large Jewelry Cabinet Makeover
One of the handles was completely missing and the hinges on the ring drawer were broken.
I searched but couldn’t find a matching handle. So I decided to just fill in all the holes with Minwax Stainable Wood Filler then replace them with some of the glass handles I’ve been collecting.
Hubby came to my rescue and fixed the hinges for me while I painted.
I gave it one good coat of CeCe Caldwell’s natural chalk and mineral paint in Seattle Mist. See the other pieces I’ve painted this color HERE.
When the paint dried I wet distressed it, let it dry again, and covered it with Minwax Polycrylic . I’m still liking that better than the wax.
Here’s the finished product. Have to say, I LOVED the mismatched knobs. I usually replace the glass but this had some really nice beveled glass in it so I kept it.
Here it is on my shelf at Paris Flea Market. I guess someone else liked this painted jewelry cabinet almost as much as I did. It sold the first weekend.

Really love the color! I think it’s an unusual one. I have my mothers jewelry chest up in the dress up closet with old jewelry. My youngest daughter chose it when my mother was giving things away. She remembered opening it and seeing all of her jewelry as a child and loved it. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann

Hi Ann! What a cute jewelry box. its like a mini secretary. You have the best luck finding these. I can never find a jewelry box. I will keep searching because there are several you have painted that I want to copy and put in my booth. 🙂 Thank you for the inspiration!
