How to Make Unique Christmas Ornaments Out of Old Paper and Trim

These unique Christmas ornaments are a little more involved than some tutorials I share with you.  But they’re a great way to use up your scraps!  And those sweet little faces!

Unique Christmas Ornaments Made with Old Papers and Trims

I started making these several years ago because I had used so much vintage rick rack and seam binding.  They all came packaged around those little pieces of cardboard.  I loved how they had naturally aged so I kept saving them.  I had a whole drawer full and knew I needed to do something with them so right before Christmas I pulled them and my other vintage scraps out to see what I could come up with.

Supplies Needed:

• thin cardboard
• copies of vintage photos
• vintage book pages
• “You Better Not Pout” – words printed in typewriter font
• glue stick and craft glue
• charcoal pencil
• eyelets
• wire
• scraps of lace

Tools Needed:

• bone folder
• scissors
• Crop-A-Dile
• wire cutters

1. Tear the book pages into strips.  Glue diagonally across the piece of cardboard.  Smooth with bone folder.  Cut even with the cardboard on the sides.  Lightly run the charcoal pencil on the torn edges and rub with your finger.
2. Cut the vintage photo copy to fit the cardboard with space on all sides.  Glue.  Smooth with bone folder.  Repeat instructions for charcoal pencil around edge.
3. Print words onto copy paper (or type if you have an old typewriter), cut apart, arrange on top of photo and text overlapping wherever you need to.  Glue.  Smooth.  Repeat with charcoal pencil around each word.
4. Punch holes in top corners.  Add eyelets.  Wrap wire through holes to make hanger.
5. Cut lace to fit cardboard.  Glue.  Allow to dry.
