Thanks for joining me for Christmas in July! I’ve always liked making Christmas decorations in the middle of the summer. Helps me cool off on those hot days!
Today we’re making a scrap fabric Christmas garland!

Scrap Fabric Christmas Garland Supplies List
- muslin, seam binding, or ribbon for the base
- scraps of fabric, lace, trims, and tulle in your color palette
- thread
- sewing machine
- scissors
Your base for this garland can be seam binding or a ribbon. I had some leftover muslin so I just tore it into strips about 1″ wide, sewing them together end to end when needed. This is a great way to use up even more of your scraps!
Raid your fabric stash and pull out anything in your color scheme. Most of these fabrics I ripped about 1″ wide then cut into 4″-6″ strips. The seam bindings, ribbons, and rick rack were all cut.
I placed them in stacks and after moving them around until I got an arrangement I liked started the sewing.
No pins were used in the sewing of this project! I just picked up a couple of scraps at a time and placed them on the long muslin strips, sewed over them, picked up a few more, and kept repeating until I had a garland that was about 7′ long with about 10″ of muslin on each end to tie.
The hardest part of this project was just tearing the fabric into strips. And that wasn’t even hard, it just took some time. But once they were all torn the sewing went quick.
