How to Make a Simple Vintage Suitcase Chalkboard Sign

I am loving chalkboard paint lately!  You’ve seen a few table tops I’ve done with chalk paint.  Chalkboard signs are always popular at our sales but customers really go crazy over anything we paint with chalkboard paint.  My newest project is this vintage suitcase chalkboard sign.

How to Make a Chalkboard Sign on a Suitcase

I bought the suitcase from Lonae’s space at Room With a Past last year.  I’ve been using it to display aprons and other items and stacking displays at vintage markets.

But I’ve seen so many cute vintage suitcases used as signs on Pinterest that I thought I’d try it on this one.

I just wiped down the smoothest side of the suitcase and painted on three thin coats of chalkboard paint, letting the paint dry completely between each coat.  So easy! I didn’t even take pictures of the process because it was so simple.

I didn’t do this but you could tape off the edges with painters tape to get a straight edge. I just let mine be organic.

Now I just need to work on my chalkboard printing. This would be great to write a quote or Bible verse on to display in your home. Or to write a Christmas countdown or other holiday message.
