Thrift Store Finds Upcycled with Modern Masters Metallic Paint

I love shopping for display items at thrift stores.  I bought all the pieces in this post at thrift stores during my travels the last few months.  When I was at the Snap Conference I actually won a quart of Modern Masters Shimmer Metallic Paint so I thought I’d try it out on these.

BTW, I had a painting day at my house a few weeks ago and this paint was the favorite of the day!  It goes on very smooth and covers well.  I think these all have two thin layers on them.

Here’s what the leaf dish looked like before it was painted.  Light wood with a little scratching on it.

And here it is after.  What do you think?

I painted the mug rack on a different day.  This is how I paint a lot of times when I’m by myself… just me, Good Mythical Morning, and a cup of coffee.  (I must have already finished the coffee when I took this!)

And here’s the mug rack after.  You can see a little of the shimmer in the light.

One more piece… I forgot to take a before photo but it’s in the thrift store haul video.  I’ll link to it when I get it up.  I called it a “men’s jewelry box” but it’s actually called a “valet”, probably from the 1970s.

I took all of these to Treasure Island Flea last month.  My daughter took these beautiful photos.  You can see the leaf dish in one of them.  I think it sets off our statement necklaces perfectly!

Treasure Island Flea market, last weekend of every month (except December). One of the best flea markets in the Bay Area! San Francisco, California | DuctTapeAndDenim.comThe bottom photos are fun… we tried food and drinks from a couple of new vendors.  The bottom left photo is a Hungarian chimney cake from Rill’s.  Delicious!  Kind of like a cinnamon roll baked around a wooden cylinder in a routisserie oven.  The Black Medicine coffee on the right is a pressure brewed coffee with added vitamin C.  I heard it’s sold in our local Safeway so I’ll be looking for it next time I’m there.

‘Til the next project,

Love the metallic finish on the leaf dish. Great to have “serving pieces” like this that you can just leave your jewelry in when you pack up for the day!
