Thanksgiving

What is the Opposite of Thanksgiving?

“What’s the opposite of Thanksgiving?”  I’ve asked this several times in the last couple of days and got a lot of great answers:  complaining, greed, selfishness, whining, grumbling, depression, discontent, a couple even answered “Christmas”, which unfortunately I sometimes agree with.

What's the opposite of thanksgiving? Complaining . #30DoT

Either I’m so focused on giving thanks that all my complaints are really standing out to me or Satan doesn’t want me to give thanks so he’s throwing little grenades in my path to tempt me to complain.  Either way, this has been a weird couple of weeks and I don’t think it’s over.

But think about this, if we complain are we telling God we aren’t satisfied with what He has given us, or don’t like where He has placed us?  Whether it is our house, family, job, or weather?

Do all things without grumbling or disputing.  Philippians 2:14 (NASB)

John MacArthur says in his notes on this verse, that grumbling “is an emotional rejection of God’s providence, will, and circumstances for one’s life.”  And questioning means “criticisms directed negatively toward God.”  Do you believe God is sovereign and has a plan for us?  So why are you complaining?

James 3:10 ESV, “From the same mouth come blessings and cursing.  My brothers, these things ought not be so.”

I’m gonna go now and try to take my own advice.
