Autumn Thanksgiving

Paper Straw Garland | Thanksgiving Decor

I’m excited to be working with Oriental Trading on a Thanksgiving home post that you’ll see on November 2.  Today you’re getting a little sneak peek into one of the projects I made for the post… a super easy DIY paper straw garland.  I made it for fall but now that I look at it I may add it to my Christmas tree, too!

Supplies Needed for Paper Straw Garland

  • paper straws
  • wood beads
  • jute string
  • scissors
  • tape

Supplies for paper straw garland | DuctTapeAndDenim.com

Start by cutting the paper straws into pieces to make paper straw “beads”.  There is no need to measure.  These are all a tiny bit different in length.  This is not an exact project!

Stringing the beads is much easier if you tape the end of the jute string first.  This basically makes a tape “needle” which will keep the jute from unraveling.  (Sorry for the nasty hands in the photo… crafting injuries!)

Then just alternate stringing on the beads and straws until you have a garland as long as you want.  The package from Oriental Trading made approximately 15′ of chain.

Hi Ann! Super cute idea to make a Thanksgiving tree with your garland! I could see this with family and friends coming over for Thanksgiving then everyone writing a “note” for the tree ~ something they are thankful for, or a prayer request. Would be great all dressed up through the holiday season!
Thanks for linking up with me,
    Barb 🙂

I love this idea! It turned out beautifully with the gold! And Lord knows, I have more straws than I could ever possible use!

What a great idea; would be a great one for kids! Different colors for different holidays would be cool, too! I am just beginning to appreciate garlands. Want to try a simple “Grateful” one with Sunday School kids soon!
