Huge News for DT&D | Making My Small Business Full-Time

I’ve dropped a few hints here and there over the last few months that there will be some really big changes coming to Duct Tape and Denim.  The biggest change is coming at the end of this week.  I came to the point where I had to choose between my day job in the doctor’s office or going on with my own business.  I chose to make my small business full-time.  Friday will be my last day at the office.

It was a hard decision.  I like the office work I do, the people I work with, and the hours.  But it’s not creative.  So every day I’ve been coming home and working another 2-4 hours on my jewelry and painting.  It’s kind of my therapy… my way of relaxing.

It’s also a scary decision.  Many times over the past few months I’ve wondered if my stuff is good enough… can I work on my own… can I do this?  But I’ve had a lot of support and encouragement from those who have known about my upcoming decision.  So I took the leap.  I’ve already got a few shows lined up and will keep the blog updated about where I’m gonna be.

Here’s the schedule for Spring 2014 so far:

• March 7-8 – biking/shopping trip to Solvang, CA
• March 20-23 – Room With a Past, Walnut Creek, CA
• March 29-30 – Treasure Island Flea, San Francisco, CA
• April 10-13 – Room With a Past, Walnut Creek, CA
• April 11-12 – Roses and Rust Vintage Home and Garden Market, Anderson, CA
• April 26-27 – Treasure Island Flea, San Francisco, CA
• May 15-18 – Room With a Past, Walnut Creek, CA
• May 24-25 – Treasure Island Flea, San Francisco, CA
• Duct Tape and Denim on Etsy – open 24/7 !

That’s the plan for now.  I’m trying the TI Flea in March before I sign up for the other dates but all the other dates are set.  I’m also working on an online shop where I can sell some of the jewelry and scarves that aren’t handmade or vintage AND I’m also working with some small boutiques across the country that will be selling my handmade jewelry.  So if you or someone you know owns a shop and is interested please let me know!  I’ll be highlighting the shops and shop owners here on the blog as they send me photos.
