How to Make a Simple Nativity Scene Christmas Sign with a Stencil

Y’all know I collect nativity scenes, right? Well, this year I made some of the easiest ones I’ve ever made! I used some of my Christmas stencils to create a simple nativity scene Christmas sign. I used the same stencil and board to make all of these in a variety of paint and stain colors. I’d love to know which one you liked the best. (I’ll give you a hint, too… all of them sold EXCEPT the red one.)

How to Make a Nativity Scene Sign

  • 1″ x 4″ board cut into pieces
  • nativity stencil – I used the 5″ x 11″ but it comes in a lot of sizes!
  • washi tape
  • leftover paints and stains from other projects
  • stencil brush

It didn’t take much paint at all so I just used leftovers from all my other DIY and craft projects this fall.

Since this is a pretty basic DIY project and it’s easier to show you than to tell you, I did a Facebook Live.  Watch this:

Now for close-ups of all the variations I made. Leave a comment and let me know which is your favorite. This one used a dark walnut stain and white chalky finish paint.

This sign used a green stain and the same white paint.

Then I went to a drastic color combination and used black and white.  Some had black backgrounds with white nativity scenes…

…and others had a white background with black nativity scenes.

This next color combination was the only one I didn’t like, so I only made one. And guess what was the ONE that didn’t sell in all my fall/holiday shows? Yep! I guess no one else liked this shade of red either. Next year I’m going to do a darker shade of red that will blend in better with my vintage style Christmas decorations.
