How to Make a Quick Bicycle Wheel Wreath with a Flea Market Find

An easy bicycle wheel wreath to make from flea market finds!

I’ve been seeing bicycle wheel wreaths on Pinterest for a few years now. I thought that would be a perfect wreath for our front door… since I’m married to Bikeman, ya know!

On our last trip to Canton, I finally found the perfect wheels to use to make a bicycle wheel wreath… even though they’re NOT actually bicycle wheels! We think they’re buggy wheels. The tire part is made of hard rubber that has cracks, not an inflatable rubber tire.

We had wandered around the flea market for TWO days and were headed back to the Jeep when I spotted these in a pile by the path. They were much dirtier when I found them! We’d seen a lot of bicycle wheels that day but none had been exactly right — either too big, too modern, or had extra parts on them. These were EXACTLY what I was looking for.

• old buggy or bicycle wheel
• fake flowers
• floral wire
• LOTS of hot glue
• burlap ribbon

How to Make a Bicycle Wheel Wreath

As I mentioned, these wheels were dirty when I found them. (As was most of the stuff I bought that weekend at the Canton flea market.) So first of all, I had to clean them. I just took them out in the yard with a brush and some Dawn and then sprayed them off.

Next, I trimmed all my fake flowers, laid them out on the wheel, and then rearranged them until I had a pattern that I liked. I started with the largest sunflowers in the middle and worked my way out from the center with leaves peeking out around the edges.

Then, I hot glued the leaves to the wheel and spokes.

I tried tying some of the larger sunflowers on with floral wire just to make sure they wouldn’t fall off. Hot glue isn’t the longest-lasting glue around. But it’s good for a quick project. And I’ll probably pull these flowers off and turn this into a Christmas wreath later this year.

Once I had the largest sunflowers attached where I wanted them, I stuck on the smaller ones and then balanced out the red flowers. I think they’re supposed to be paintbrushes. We had a lot of those wildflowers around the SheShed this spring and I loved them!

For a hanger, I just ran a length of wired burlap ribbon through the top and tied it.

I ended up decorating both of the buggy wheels with sunflowers and paintbrushes. One ended up attached to an old window we also bought at Canton.  I then tacked the ribbon to the back of the frame so it couldn’t be seen.

I hung the other wreath over a tobacco basket on the wall of my SheShed, at least for now.
