This is the last project before you get to see the “big” small bathroom reveal on Friday. So today’s project, spray painting light fixtures, will be a short one. Anyone else have ugly old light fixtures like this in your bathroom? I always thought they looked like two big ole bug eyes!

Spray Painting Light Fixtures
First of all, I covered as much of the bathroom as I could with paper and drop cloth. I pointed a fan on me to get some fresh air. There’s an exhaust fan right above the light so I turned it on too. I learned my lesson after spray painting my kitchen door over 10 years ago!
I used Rust-Oleum Metallic in Oil Rubbed Bronze, the same paint I used for these. It just took a couple of light coats.
Let me emphasize LIGHT! Don’t spray on too much at a time or you’ll get drips.
Bikeman wanted me to do a few touches of gold to match the sink faucet. I don’t know… I might go back and add them later.
It was really hard taking pictures of a light fixture! There’s no window in our powder room so there is absolutely NO other light in there.

Wow, those a 100% better in black! I’m glad you changed the shades. Those roundish ones were kind of creepy!

I actually like the old lamp shades better. Sort of MCM if you’re into that but the spray paint is wonderful. Glue/hot glue and spray paint solves a million problems! AND a cheap way to go without making things look flimsy and VERY DIY.

Ooh, you are so daring to spray that in place but know I know it can be done without making a mess. It looks so amazing now in your updated bathroom. I love mine now too after spray painting ours but I made hubby take it off the wall. An ugly light is sometimes just waiting to be beautiful with a new finish and inexpensive globes. I love the feeling of saving ourselves big money in the process.

I was too impatient to wait for him to take it off!

This is on my to do list! I have been planning a bathroom makeover for a while now and will be spray painting one of my fixtures too.
When I redecorated our bedroom, I spray painted the ceiling fan instead of buying a new one. I’ve since read about spraying one right in place. I will be trying that next time too.

I hadn’t thought about spray painting a ceiling fan! Great idea.

I need to do that to my guest bathroom fixture! I didn’t know if it could be done without taking it down (ugh!).Thanks for sharing. I saw your post over at “Dare To Share” blog party.

It can be done… at long as you’re careful!
