Handmade jewelry makes great gifts. I love making personalized jewelry for my friends, something more personal than a piece of jewelry from the mall. Today’s vintage salt shaker necklace is popular with ladies who love vintage, shopping at flea markets, shabby chic, rustic, etc.
I found these two individual shakers at Paris Flea Market. I thought they’d make very festive necklaces.

These individual aluminum shakers came from Ebay! I love the subtle texture on the sides.
Supplies needed for Salt Shaker Necklace
- vintage salt shakers
- annealed wire
- freshwater pearl, crystal bead, or another bead of your choice
- 2 pairs of pliers (I use one straight pair and one bent-nose pair.)
- round nose pliers
- wire cutters
- ball chain (20″- 30″)
- jump rings
- 1″ round brass blank
- metal stamps, alphabet
- hole punch
These are a couple of types of wire that I’ve used before:
How to Make These Upcycled Necklaces
I hand stamp the words “SALT OF THE EARTH” on a round brass tag. You can see how I darken the hand-stamped letters and FOUR different ways to punch holes in metal on previous blog posts.
I decided that it’s easier to show you what I do with the wire so I made this video for you:
The Finished Salt Shaker Necklace
My daughter came by and she allowed me to use her as a model so you could see what it looks like on a model.
She’s also wearing one of my statement necklaces. See… you don’t have to dress up to wear them. Chambray shirts are my favorite thing to wear rhinestone necklaces with, too.
