This upcycled jewelry box project is from a couple of years ago and I wasn’t thinking about blogging about it so I didn’t take any before photos. (I’m learning. Now I’m trying to take before photos of EVERYTHING I buy at thrift stores. Just in case they end up on the blog!)
When I found it it was a dark reddish wood with a faux stained glass insert. It was just one of the many boring little wooden jewelry boxes that I see at thrift stores all the time. I think I paid $2.99 for it at Goodwill. Small jewelry boxes like this are super easy to work on so it was a quick project. I think it sold for either $12 or $15 at Treasure Island Flea.

Upcycled Jewelry Box Supplies
- CeCe Caldwell’s chalk and clay paint, Thompsonville Teal – Here’s a similar paint that I’ve been using that’s MUCH cheaper!
- walnut stain/finish
- paint brushes
- decorative metal sheet
- staple gun & short staples
The inside was clean so I didn’t do anything but wipe it out with a damp cloth. Don’t pass up boxes if they have a stain inside though. There are many ways you can also refinish the inside of a jewelry box. Check out my other jewelry box projects to see some of them.
I’ve paired up with 19 other talented bloggers to bring you a monthly Thrift Store Decor Upcycle Challenge. Each month we will create a new home decor piece from an item (or items) we’ve found at a thrift store, yard sale, resale shop etc. There is no budget or specific theme so we are free to let our creativity run wild! I had no idea that this was a jewelry box until you showed us the insides. Paint really brightens it up.

I think I’ve walked by several jewelry boxes with stained glass, but this update is easy that I may just buy one. Great job!

I love all of your jewelry box makeovers. Would you believe i found one identica to the teal box. That was my largest find . They just arent available around here. I did find another very small one, but that is the extent of my finds. Right now i am woking on old suitcases that i have had around for a long time. I am going to use them for yarn storage. The yarn is now in plastic tubs which i want to get rid of.
Did i say i love the jewelry boxes and wish i could find some larger ones to upcycle.
