March was my first Treasure Island Flea as a vendor. I wasn’t sure what to expect but it was great! Very hard work but turned out to be worth it even though it did rain hard ALL DAY on Saturday.
I usually make fun of people here in California when they say it’s raining hard. Living in Texas most of my life, I’ve been in a few storms, even some tornadoes and hurricanes. What we get here is nothing like that. I think I’ve heard thunder less than ten times since we moved here ten years ago! But Saturday was actually a pretty hard rain. I took these photos to compare the weather difference between Saturday and Sunday. The flea is on Treasure Island, right in the middle of San Francisco Bay with a great view of the city. But Saturday you couldn’t even see it! And the photo was taken during one of the light rain times, too.
I was so busy I didn’t get much time to walk around or take pictures. I did take a few just around our booth. You can see our entire booth here on the right. All 5′ x 8′ of it! It was tight. My plan was to make a very shallow U shape but I was concerned that if someone bumped into the table the crates on top would fall off the balcony and hit people below. When we got there everyone else was setting up with their chairs behind their tables so we followed suit.
Here’s how much space we had behind our table. It wasn’t bad at all though. Gave Glenn a space to work and a great view of all the people below. And there were a lot of people. I had the same experience last year at Antique Alley. People must just like to shop in the rain. Plus all the outdoor vendors were closed so all the shopper came inside.
Our most popular pieces were the I Love California and I Love Baseball necklaces. I sold out of the Giants baseball necklaces, only have one left for the A’s, and just a few California ones left. I’ve already ordered more supplies to make both of those for the next sale.
The sale next month will have a much different feel. Everyone will be outside on the lawn until next winter. I guess I better go buy a tent!
