A list of my favorite Thanksgiving books and why I like to read them on my Kindle.
I’ve shared a list of my favorite Thanksgiving books for children but I just realized that I’ve never shared books that I like to read. Well, actually, I like to read the kid’s books, too. But today I’m sharing a list of Thanksgiving books for adults.

Yes, I have The Berenstain Bears on my Kindle, even though my grandchildren live on the other side of the world. I told you I like to read children’s books! And I’m actually using the Kindle app on my First Generation iPad mini. My husband gave it to me for my birthday when they first came out. I can’t do any of the updates anymore because it’s so old. But all I do on it now is read so it’s still working for me.
I’ve decided that when it does finally die I’m going to get a Kindle Fire. They are sooooooo much cheaper than iPads! Of course, if you want to get online and do other things, you can get a newer model refurbished iPad mini at a much better price.
I didn’t think I would ever get on the ebook train but as I get older I’ve realized that the digital screens are much easier on my eyes. It’s much easier for me to read on my Kindle app, especially in the evening when it’s darker and my eyes are tired.
You may realize that my list of Thanksgiving books isn’t really about Thanksgiving. They’re more about giving thanks and learning to be grateful to God. So… here’s my list of favorites:
My Favorite Thanksgiving Books
The Valley of Vision – This is one of my all-time favorite books! It’s a collection of Puritan prayers and devotions. Several prayers of thanksgiving are included. I love the antiquated language. I wish I could write like that! Also available on Kindle but I’ve had this copy for years.
Thankfulness – Even When It Hurts by Susan Lutz – A small booklet that’s easy to read but to the point. A great quick read if you’re going through a hard time. This little booklet is under $4.00 and not available on Kindle.
Keep A Quiet Heart, Elisabeth Elliot – I love anything written by Elisabeth Elliot. This is a collection of articles from her newsletter that point us to the peace of God.
Humility, C. J. Mahaney – I’ve always thought that thankfulness and humility go hand in hand. This is a short book — VERY inexpensive on Kindle. Also available on Audible (which I also love, btw).
Stepping Heavenward, Mrs. E. Prentiss (Elizabeth Prentiss) – This is one of the few books that I’ve read multiple times. I’m going to guess that I’ve read it completely four times. And I just bought it today on Kindle because it was less than a dollar!
We have a pastor that tells us it’s good to read books by “old, dead guys”. Well, this book is by an “old, dead girl”. Elizabeth Prentiss lived in the 1800s but the story she tells could happen today. In fact, much of it I feel like I’ve lived through myself!
This book reads like a diary and you follow the main character as her life doesn’t turn out the way she expected it to but her character and relationship with God grow until the end.
When God Doesn’t Fix It, Laura Story – Laura Story is another young lady whose life didn’t turn out like she thought. I got to meet her a few years back when she came to our church to do a concert. If you’re facing a situation that God “isn’t fixing” you NEED to read this book! It’s also available on Kindle or Audible.
Matthew Henry’s Commentary – I bought a Matthew Henry’s Commentary app for $1.99 a few years ago and now I carry it around in my pocket! Now I can read what Matthew has to say about the verses I’m reading whenever I feel like it!
Give Thanks: Thanksgiving Readings for Your Family – OK, this is a little self-promotion. This is an ebook I put together about 10 years ago with many of the poems, Scriptures, prayers, and stories that I’ve collected over the years. If you’d like to have everything in one place, this is where you can get it. It’s on sale this month for only $4.00. I just want as many people as possible to be able to get this and focus on Thanksgiving before we get carried away by the Christmas season!
