Repurposing Vintage Items as Planters

Tomorrow’s the BIG DAY!!! Jordann and Jonathan are getting married!!!  So you’re getting a super short post today.  There are so many photos and wedding projects that I want to share but I can’t let any photos leak out yet.  Give me a few weeks and you’ll see some GORGEOUS wedding photos!

But today I’m sharing one of my husband’s summer projects.  He got hooked on going to garage sales with me.  These planters are the natural result since he’s in charge of the gardening now.

The biggest thing to think about in using vintage items as planters is drainage.  If you don’t provide some way for the water to drain out the plants will get waterlogged and die.  That’s not a problem with the colanders.  In fact, in our area, it’s harder to keep them wet enough!

But The Music Man didn’t want to punch holes in the bottoms of the coffee pots so our local gardening expert recommended that he fill the bottom 1/3 with rocks and be careful not to overwater.  We don’t get any rain in the summer so we don’t have to worry about that.

Have you used any unique items as planters?  Follow my Gardening | Container & Patio board on Pinterest and tag me if you have!
