Just because I’m celebrating the 30 Days of Thanksgiving doesn’t mean I’m a scrooge.
Yes, I do have a ban on Christmas decorations or Christmas music in our house before Thanksgiving. But there are a few exceptions to the “no Christmas before Thanksgiving” rule.

When I Break My No Christmas Before Thanksgiving Rules
First, because we always participate in our church’s Christmas program we start listening to carols and our other music in September. This year we’re presenting The Story again. It’s a huge production including living art that you really have to see to believe. I think there are some videos on the website that you could watch.
Second, I love to make Christmas gifts and decorations so I need to start those early. I usually start making ornaments in the summer. I have a few gifts started already. One that I can tell already will be a present NEXT Christmas!
I have several tutorials on the blog of ornaments and other gifts I’ve made. Click here to see them all.
Third, now that I’m selling my jewelry in some local shops I have to pull out decorations for my spaces early. The November sale in both Room With a Past and Paris Flea Market are Christmas themed. And setting up for PFM is what I did yesterday. Here’s the top shelf in my space… I have more ornaments for the tree and was sure that I packed them but I couldn’t find them once I got there!

As you can tell, I’ve been busy painting vintage jewelry cabinets again!
I bought the two small crates in the photo below last year to use for these sales. They have some great vintage style Christmas illustrations on the end. Once I got them on the shelf I realized that the graphics can’t even be seen!
And here’s my bottom shelf. Again, I’m trying to use the space under the bottom shelf. There are a couple of baskets with vintage trims in them that can be pulled out.
So today, on the 4th day of 30DoT, I’m thankful for the shops that I’m in and all the great ladies I get to meet while I’m working at them. They’re a fun and creative bunch.

Virginia says
I life in a densely populated area of Virginia where there are many branches of the U.S. Military services, and a high concentration of defense civilian employees.
I find that our military families are ‘always prepared early’ and they make their Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday preparations a ‘priority’. It does not offend me to see a mixture of Halloween, turkeys for Thanksgiving, Christmas decorations in the military exchanges and stores off-base.
Some members of our military will be deployed for some or all of the holidays and they must purchase early, wrap and leave gifts for family members. They tend to decorate early too because of deployments or in some cases, welcoming home a deployed family member for the holidays. I am happy to see the stores in my area are responding to military needs.
I always say, “The items are there in the stores, you have the choice to buy it, bring it home, wrap it, decorate and get ready, or if you decide it is too early to do these things and it is your preference to wait, then so be it.

That’s a good way to look at it. My daughter and her family have lived out of the country for several years. When we went to visit them in September we celebrated Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, AND birthdays!
