Scripture – Colossians 3:15
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. Colossians 3:15
A Thanksgiving Hymn
This is from another long poem/hymn by an anonymous author, written in 1894. Yes, these old texts are a little hard to read but I love the way they put words together. (BTW, you can get the full text and ALL the poems, stories, and Scriptures that we use in 30 Days of Thanksgiving in my ebook, Give Thanks.)
Then lift up the head with a song!
And lift up the hands with a gift!
To the ancient giver of all
The spirit of gratitude lift!
For the joy and promise of Spring,
For the hay and clover sweet,
The barley, the rye, and the oats,
The rice and the corn and the wheat,
The cotton and sugar and fruit,
The flowers and the fine honeycomb,
The country, so fair and so free,
The blessing and the glory of home,
“Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving!”
Joyfully, gratefully call,
“To God, the preserver of men,”
The bountiful Father of all.”
More Thanksgiving Journal Ideas
Do you have a thanksgiving journal yet? If you do, make a list of 5 things you’re thankful for.
If you don’t have one yet, here are a few more ideas…
Here’s a gratitude journal I made out of an old book cover a couple of years ago. See the inside HERE.
I bought these little spiral bound notebooks at the dollar store a few years ago. Then I just glued papers on the cover.
A reader sent me this photo of her little thanksgiving journal. I wanted to share it with you to show that you don’t need to worry about your handwriting. This journal is for you… no one’s going to grade you on it!
This reader went to the complete opposite end of the spectrum and went all out on a thanksgiving art journal!
This last one was a LOT of fun to make but I did work on it for multiple years! I used an old vintage book cover and filled it with photos and mementos from 2009. I go into detail on it in this article. (COMING SOON!)

Giving Thanks,
