How to Clean Jewelry

Thanks for purchasing jewelry or Christmas ornaments from Duct Tape and Denim!  We hope you enjoy your purchase and keep it for a long time.  If you do, you may at some point need to know how to clean jewelry made of the metals we use most often:  raw brass, stainless steel, and pewter.  We also included how to clean and care for sterling silver and gold, even though we don’t use those metals very often.

How to Clean Jewelry

Here are some of the products I’ll mention below. Keep scrolling to see videos on how to clean your jewelry.

How to Clean Brass Jewelry

Our hand stamped tags are raw brass and will age over time.  If you want them to stay shiny, you can polish them with a Sunshine polishing cloth.

If you want the letters to be darker, color them in with a Sharpie marker and wipe it off with the Sunshine cloth.

Watch this Facebook Live video to see how I do it.

How to Clean Stainless Steel Jewelry

The Sunshine polishing cloths are also good for cleaning our stainless steel chains.  Just hold the chain between a fold of the cloth and gently pull it through.  Repeat until clean and shiny.

How to Clean Pewter Jewelry

If you don’t mind getting a little messy, here’s how to clean pewter with catsup, vinegar, and baking soda!

How to Clean Sterling Silver Jewelry

Silver jewelry will tarnish if you don’t wear it. I use my Sunshine Polishing Cloth for sterling, too. Chris from Real Simple shows how to clean sterling silver jewelry with warm water, a polishing cloth or silver cleaning fluid or silver paste.

How to Clean Gold Jewelry

In the video below, Chris from Real Simple shows how to clean gold jewelry with warm water, dishwashing liquid, and an old toothpaste.

How to Care for and Store Your Costume Jewelry

Reminders:

  • Remove your jewelry before taking a shower or bath.
