Today I’m going to share another easy project from a few years back… a super simple Halloween garland made from scraps of fabric, lace, ribbon, and more. Now’s the time to go raid your stash!

DIY Fabric Garland
Several years ago we started seeing these scrap garlands and I loved them but they were all tied. Cute, but they took a LONG time to tie. Jordy and I would tear fabric and watch our favorite TV shows while we tied. I think we still have a few down in Texas that are stored with our Antique Alley decorations.
Then when I got my birthday present last year — a sewing machine! — I thought I could save a lot of time by sewing the scraps instead of tying them. Plus I could use all shapes and sizes of scraps instead of just long thin ones. First I made a red and purple scrap garland for my sister. Then I pulled out my neutral and black scraps to make a Halloween garland. (Y’all know I don’t do bright colors!)
The ones in these photos were made of black, white, and cream scraps of fabric, lace, seam binding, and tulle.
How to Make a Scrap Fabric Halloween Garland
First I cut the fabric into strips about 1-1.5″ wide. Then I cut them and all the trims into 4″-6″ pieces.
I used a zig-zag stitch to sew them onto long pieces of twill tape. Someone just asked me last week if it took a long time to pin all of them to the tape. Well, no… actually I didn’t even pin them. I just stacked each trim together and picked one at a time out of the stacks as I was sewing.
Halloween Displays in the Shop
Here is one of the garlands on my shelf at Room With a Past, with my HAPPY FALL garland in front of it.
And below is a photo of one of them hanging over my shelf at Paris Flea Market along with my Vintage BINGO Card Banner.
