My daughters and I used to play a little ‘game’ when we went thrifting to see who could get the best deal. Once my youngest daughter and I each bought a pair of blue jeans for $5 each from the same thrift store. We looked them up online to see how much they would have been new. I thought I had won when I found mine at a little over $100. But hers would have cost $250!
This time my older daughter may have us both beat! She lives in Canada and found these Crown canning jars at a thrift store a few weeks ago. Most of them are a wide mouth mason jar style with zinc and glass lids!
Crown Canning Jars
I think I counted 24. And can you see the price on the top of them? 25c each! When I looked them up online they’re between $10-30 EACH! Yeah, she beat our jeans find on this one.
The dates on the bottom show they’re from the 1930s-1950s. I’m really surprised all the glass tops are still intact.
But the Crown canning jars are not for sale. We’re dividing them up between us and my sister. I’m currently using one of mine to hold homemade dryer sheets in my laundry room.
BTW, I’m still wearing those jeans… gotta get my 5 dollars worth out of them.
‘Til the next market,

love the jars you posted. Good find. I have a pt. size Crown Imperial more in an Aqua color. I am looking for the glass lid since i dropped mine and broke it. If you happen to come across one let me know. A clear one would work as well. Thanks.

Hi – I have a pale green crown canning jar with zinc screw on lid and trying to find info on it and not successful. It has improved above it – no crown – and on bottom it looks like a number 8. Do you have any info you’d like to share? Thanks very much.

That sounds like an amazing find! Unfortunately, I don’t know much more about them. Other than the green, blue, and purple jars are much more collectible and valuable. I’ve had several questions about these so I’m thinking about doing some research and updating this article… would you be willing to share a photo of your green jar so I can include it? TIA!
