Menu planning is one of those things that can easily get away from you. Especially for us crafty girls! I can get completely lost in a project and the next thing I know hubby is calling to say he’s on his way home for dinner! That’s why I started using a meal planner on my refrigerator a few years ago. Last week I made myself a new one. Here’s how.

Supply List for Chalkboard Meal Planner
First, take a look at what I’ve been using for the past few years. I actually don’t even remember how long I’ve had it. It’s a white board that sticks to the fridge. I found it at Staples. I don’t think they make them anymore but here’s something similar.
After a few years of use, my whiteboard meal planner was looking pretty nasty! So I pulled it off the refrigerator and wiped it down. Then I started on my new blackboard meal planner.
The contact paper is easy to cut. No measuring! I just measured my fridge and followed the grid lines on the back of the paper to cut it.
I used a chalk pen to freehand the lines along the edges.
Since I didn’t have a ruler nearby I grabbed the next best thing, a copy of Country Living magazine, and used it to guide my lines between the days of the week.
Then I wrote the days of the week up at the top. I thought about writing a B for breakfast, L for lunch, and D for dinner (or S if you’re from Texas!) down one side but decided I didn’t really need to do that.
I pulled off the paper backing and stuck it on my fridge, starting on Sunday and smoothing it down gently as I went along.
The chalk pen can be easily erased with a damp cloth. I plan to write my weekly menu with regular chalk so I can erase it with a dry cloth without removing the lines or days of the week.
What do you think? Do you have a meal planner? Leave a comment and let me know what you use. I’d love to have more ideas.
And that’s it. This one little thing really helps me keep our mealtime organized. I can glance at it in the morning to see if I need to take anything out of the freezer or look a few days to see if I need to run to the store.

Oh, my goodness!!! I had no idea there was such a thing as chalkboard Contact paper!!! I love this!! (I must say, I’m also in awe of how bare your refrigerator is. I don’t think ours will EVER be that way. Lol.)

lol… Wendy, I cleaned off the whole front when I took off my old meal planner. Whenever I clean it’s really just like I start over again. It’s already about half way full!

I have used the contact paper on the side of a cabinet before. But I like the idea of having a weekly planner on the fridge. With 3 teenage boys, I think the most asked question in my house is “what’s for tea?” (*in the UK we call dinner tea)

Thanks, Claire! I still have some chalkboard contact paper left over and I’m thinking about putting it inside my cabinet doors next.

I love this upcycle! I, too, have magnet chalkboards on my fridge for shopping lists and menus but I made mine from old magnet calendars from our realtor. I like that long whiteboard-now-chalkboard magnet, great find!
