12 Airport Parking and Travel Tips to Get You Through the Airport Faster

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Park ‘N Fly Airport Parking. All opinions are 100% mine.

Who’s traveling for Christmas?  For the first time in YEARS we’re actually going to be in Texas on Christmas Day.  Since moving to California over 12 years ago, we’ve become quite the travelers!  We have lots of helpful hints so  I thought I’d share some of my airport travel tips with you today. Airport Parking & Travel Tips

Before Traveling

Sign up for TSA Prescreened travel.  This will get you in a shorter security line where you won’t have to take off your shoes or remove your laptop. Download your airline’s app or at least make sure you have their 1-800 phone number entered into your phone. Pack light.  If you can get everything in ONE carryon you won’t have to wait for your luggage.  (I don’t know if I’ll be able to do that for Christmas.)  If you are checking on luggage, weigh your bags before leaving home to make sure you’re within limits. Know where the airport is but more important, know where the parking lot is. Check in online.    Check flight status before leaving home and again as soon as you get through security. Make sure you phone is COMPLETELY charged.  Especially if you haven’t printed out your boarding passes and flight info.  It is usually a good idea to print a copy at home, even if you use the info off your phone. park n fly van in garage

Airport Parking

We live in a unique location where we have the choice of driving to the airport and parking there, riding the BART train, or getting someone to drop us off.  Honestly, parking at the airport is the easiest to plan.  But even better (and cheaper) than parking at the airport is finding a Park ‘N Fly Airport Parking lot nearby. Make a parking reservation and pay online.  We never have to worry if a lot will have a space left… especially important when traveling for the holidays.  And you won’t waste time driving around the lot looking for an opening.  Plus we get out of the lot really quick on our return since we’ve already paid. Use Park N’ Fly.  They’ll pick you up AT your car within 5 minutes, help you with your luggage, then drop you off in front of your terminal.  Faster even than parking at the airport and hauling your own luggage across the lot.  When you get back, they’ll drop you off at your car.  You won’t even have to remember where you parked!  (I also like that they’ll wait for you to get back in your car… makes me feel safer when I’m traveling by myself.) Check out this video to see how this easy airport parking works:

In the Airport Travel Tips

Keep your id & boarding pass in an easily accessible place.  You’ll need this to get through security. Remove as much jewelry as possible.  When I travel to shows I like to wear my jewelry to show it off.  I always get searched when I do.  I’ve learned to stick my jewelry in a bag in my carry on and put it on once I’ve passed through security. Check the flight schedule board as soon as you get through security.  Sometimes flights change gates.  No reason to walk to one end of the concourse to discover that your flight is leaving from the other end! Go to the gate first.  We find out gate first then one of us stays with the carry on bags while the others get lunch, snacks, water, and use the restroom.  No need to haul your bags around unless you’re traveling alone.  (NEVER leave your bags unattended!) Thanks for reading.  Don’t forget to head over to the Park ‘N Fly site to sign up for their Frequent Parker Loyalty Program!  And let me know if you have any other travel tips I should know about.  This is our last trip for this year but we have at least 3 plane trips next year. ‘Til the next trip,

Great tips. Another thing that we do is pack a light snack, breakfast bar, fruit, nuts, chocolate! This Christmas I packed a surdy, empty bottle to be refilled as we were traveling to mountains from a little above sea level. Thanks for your blog. I really enjoy it as I’m a fellow upcycler.
