Even though I create jewelry that means something to me sometimes I forget what I’m wearing or why I created it in the first place. I had that experience Sunday when someone asked me what the wing on my necklace meant. My first response was, “Oh, it’s just a wing.” But wait a minute… I was wearing my “Refuge” necklace with angels wings! One of my favorite and most meaningful pieces.
So then I explained to her that I used it because angels wings remind me of Psalm 91.
Back when my girls were little and we were in a homeschool group I helped with a 4 year old class. The teacher helped them memorize Psalm 91… the whole chapter! I still remember the cute little actions they used for the phrases “You will not be afraid of the terror by night, or of the arrow that flies by day; Of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, Or of the destruction that lays waste at noon.” The boys loved that part. I just hope they still remember this chapter as much as I do.
But it was the actions and phrase “He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you will find refuge.” That stuck the most with me. Those cute little 4 year olds reminded me of little chicks being gathered under their mother hen’s wing.
That’s what we need in this world — a God who is strong enough to gather us together and protect us with His strong wing. A God who loves us and cares for us like a mother hen.
Another of my favorite Scriptures is Matthew 23:37, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem… How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings…”
Another necklace that I use angel wings on is my memory jewelry. I made the “I Walk for My Mom” necklace to wear for the American Cancer Society’s Walk for Life a couple of years ago. I added an angel wing (not because I believe she’s an angel now, but because she liked and collected angels.) I’ve had many other requests for custom memory necklaces (or keychains for men) for loved ones who have died.
I do have a few pieces of jewelry with wings in my Etsy shop but if you’d like me to create a memory necklace for you please send me an email. Here are a few more custom memory necklaces I’ve made.

Such a sweet post about your love for the angel wings! I must confess that I have not been crazy about them for home décor, but I recently made a pair. Love them in your jewelry! Thanks for sharing with SYC.

I love the design and what the angel wings represent in these pieces. Though we do not become angels after death, God does cover us with his wings! Thanks for sharing this at What We Accomplished Wednesdays! Have a super week!
