Welcome to Day 14 of the 30 Days of Thanksgiving… and also Election Day. So don’t forget to be thankful for the opportunity to vote! Today’s guest blogger is Lindsay. She’s been a life-saver for me, helping me out with tagging and pricing my jewelry for sale and many other little projects. A couple of years ago she shared this easy Thanksgiving project that’s a great idea for little ones — or big ones, too! We also have our verse, a poem, and my new favorite version of The Doxology!

How to Make a Gratitude Tree
Thanksgiving is my favorite season. I start decorating for fall/Thanksgiving at the end of September and keep it up until the 1st of December. One lesson I do with my kids during this season is to work on having grateful hearts.
An easy project that we do every year is a Gratitude Tree. It hangs on a wall in our kitchen that has major foot traffic so we get to look at it every day, multiple times a day. Throughout the season we stop and write things we are thankful for on the tree. It ranges from people, things, or scripture that we are reading or learning about. It is great because the entire family is able to participate (well not this year for Naomi). We save it for future years as something to reflect on later.
It is good to remember where our hearts have been and it helps to direct our hearts for the future. God has been so good to our family in the joy, heartache, and tribulation. We need to learn to be grateful in response.
Scripture – Psalm 100:4
Enter His gates with thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name. Psalm 100:4 (NASB)
My friend, Jaclyn, also illustrated the verse — see it above in the first photo.
The Corn Song, by J. G. Whittier
This is just a portion of the longer poem. Read the whole poem HERE.
Heap high the farmer’s wintry hoard!
Heap high the golden corn!
No richer gift has Autumn poured
From out her lavish horn!
Let other lands, exulting, glean
The apple from the pine,
The orange from its glossy green,
The cluster from the vine;
But let the good old crop adorn
The hills our fathers trod;
Still let us, for his golden corn,
Send up our thanks to God!
